About the Artisans

The Lombok Pottery Centre was set up through a programme of bilateral cooperation between the Governments of Indonesia and New Zealand. The project began in 1988 bringing benefits to women craft producers of ceramic products traditional to Lombok, a small Indonesian island of almost 3 million inhabitants. Village women have been making pottery in Lombok since the early part of the 16th century, passing their unique skills down from mother to daughter to the present day.
