Mitra Bali

Mitra Bali workshop

Established in 1993 as a non-profit, non-governmental organization, the Mitra Bali Foundation acts as a market and export facilitator for around 100 producer groups employing over 1,000 men and women. These small producers are often based outside of the easily accessible tourist areas of Bali, Indonesia, and lose out to large businesses due to lower levels of working capital making it difficult to fulfil large orders without the 50% deposit that Fair Trade buyers are happy to pay.

Mitra Bali provides facilities for producers such as a design centre offering a library of books and current magazines, consultation with product designers and a program of monthly workshops focusing on new trends, technical aspects of production and health and safety, as well as the use of environmentally sustainable resources within the production process.

Bali has traditionally been one of Indonesia's major art and craft centres and the products supplied by Mitra Bali reflect this heritage as well as the legacy of the various indigenous and foreign influences the region has experienced over the centuries.

Mitra Bali Foundation is a member of WFTO, the World Fair Trade Organization.
